Understanding Alamance County Releases
A release from the Alamance County Detention Center means that one period of sheriff custody ended. It does not always mean the person walked into the community with no further obligations. The person may have posted bond, completed a sentence, received credit for time served, obtained a dismissal or court order, or moved to another custodian. A departure for North Carolina Department of Adult Correction custody, another county, federal custody, or ICE is a transfer, not a community release.
The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, or ACSO, owns the detention and physical-release record. The Clerk of Superior Court owns the judgment, dismissal, bond order, and other court record. North Carolina DAC owns state prison and community-supervision records. Keeping those custodians separate prevents a common error: asking one office to certify an event recorded by another.
Alamance County Release Types
The label and next destination determine where a useful follow-up record will appear. P2C may show bond and court fields, but the custodian’s final release record and the court file carry different pieces of the story.

Fields in an Alamance Release Record
The public P2C detail template links identity, the booking episode, court scheduling, bond, and release information on one screen. Its public labels are useful when framing a later records request, even when a completed record can no longer be reached from the live list.

A booking photograph can also be associated with the episode. Ask for the existing record and separable public fields rather than asking ACSO to create a new narrative or calculate a date that does not exist in its files.
Request Alamance County Release Records
ACSO directs public-record requests through its written request route. A focused request identifies one adult and one booking episode, uses known identifiers, and asks for an existing booking/release record.
- Save the exact name, date of birth if lawfully known, booking number, arrest date, and booking agency shown in P2C.
- Open the ACSO public-records instructions and complete the linked written request form.
- Ask for booking date and time, charges at booking, bond, release date and time, release reason, releasing authority, and any public destination field.
- Ask the custodian to redact exempt material while producing the separable public portion.
- Request a cost estimate and preferred format before work begins, then retain the agency response with the booking identifier.

North Carolina’s actual-cost rule controls ordinary uncertified copies when no other law sets a charge. No ACSO-specific fee for a release sheet or booking photograph was located, so do not assume the copy is free or assign a per-page amount. The law does not promise a fixed local response time; the office must provide access as promptly as reasonably possible under the circumstances.
Law for Alamance Release Records
North Carolina Chapter 132 provides the general public-record framework. G.S. 132-6 governs inspection and copies, while G.S. 132-6.2 addresses formats and actual reproduction cost. G.S. 132-1.4 separately identifies public law-enforcement information and protects qualifying criminal-investigation or intelligence material.
Retention is a different question from online visibility. ACSO P2C is a current Inmate Inquiry, not a published archive with a guaranteed release-record display period. A record disappearing from that entry page does not establish destruction. County retention schedules and any litigation hold govern the custodian’s files. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, victim, security, and other protected information may be withheld or redacted under applicable law.
Verify an Alamance Bond Release
The local P2C FAQ makes a key distinction. Initial bail appears in Inmate Inquiry, but ACSO directs users to call (336) 570-6317 for the most current bail information. The displayed amount is therefore a lead, not proof that payment, a secured bond, or another condition was accepted.
Other holds and routine release processing can keep a person in custody after bond information changes. Confirm the specific booking number with the Detention Center and ask whether release has actually been processed. If the legal basis matters, compare that answer with the court’s bond event or order.

Use the published number with the booking identifier instead of reading the online amount as a completed release.
Alamance Release Counts Need Context
The ACSO 2020 annual report recorded 5,883 bookings and 6,027 releases. These are workload events, not unique individuals. One person can have more than one episode, and a person booked in one calendar year can be released in the next.
Releases exceeding bookings in that report does not create a meaningful “release rate.” Such a rate would need a defined population, matching period, and methodology. The figures are best used to show the volume and cross-year nature of detention work, not to infer the outcome of any individual case.
Find Alamance County Released Inmates
Start with the system that controlled the likely custody event, then use a second source when the destination or legal basis matters. This sequence prevents a live-roster absence from being mistaken for a verified release.
- Check ACSO P2C Inmate Inquiry for an active county booking and save the booking identifier if a match appears.
- If the person is gone from P2C, ask ACSO for the completed booking/release record. Alamance does not publish a labeled recent-release archive.
- Search North Carolina DAC by name or offender number if state prison, probation, parole, or post-release supervision is possible.
- Use NC SAVAN through VINELink for participating county or state custody events and alert history, then confirm with the reporting custodian.
- Use the Alamance criminal court case to verify a dismissal, judgment, sentence, or release order.
- Escalate to BOP or ICE only when federal or immigration custody is plausible.

Search DAC Alamance Release Records
The North Carolina DAC Offender Public Information Search covers state prison, probation, parole, and related state correction history dating back to 1972. DAC expressly excludes county jail records, so a short ACSO-only booking may never appear there.

Open the full person record rather than relying on a search-results snippet. Review active and completed sentences, most recent incarceration, release information, and community supervision together. An Alamance conviction can lead to placement at a prison elsewhere in North Carolina because no DAC prison was identified in the county.

Match Alamance Release and Court Records
Alamance County separates civil and criminal courthouse functions. The North Carolina Judicial Branch states that criminal matters are handled at the Judge J.B. Allen Jr. Criminal Courthouse, not the Historical Courthouse. The criminal courthouse is at 212 W. Elm Street in Graham, and the published Clerk number is (336) 570-5200.
Use the case number when requesting a dismissal, judgment, sentence, bond event, or release order. The Clerk can certify what the court ordered; ACSO can certify when physical custody ended. A court disposition may remain available after the person drops from P2C, but it may not show the exact time the detention door opened.
Alamance Release Supervision and Alerts
Probation is a court sentence administered through DAC Community Supervision. Post-release supervision follows many modern state prison terms and is administered under the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission. Parole applies chiefly to eligible older or otherwise covered sentence classes and should not be used as a general label for every prison release.
Check the DAC person record for a supervision status, then verify local routing through the Community Supervision office directory. The county directory publishes Alamance probation/parole numbers at (336) 570-6840 and (336) 570-6847, but the current DAC directory should control if details differ. NC SAVAN uses VINELink for web searching and notification registration and provides statewide help at 1-877-627-2826. A release alert reflects an event transmitted by a participating source. It does not certify the court disposition or rule out transfer to a different custodian.
Federal and ICE Release Checks
No BOP prison or current ICE detention facility was verified in Alamance County, but a person connected to the county may be held outside it. The BOP Inmate Locator can show federal custody history. A past release date with no listed facility means release from BOP custody on that date, not necessarily the end of federal supervision or release from state or immigration custody.
If ACSO reports a transfer associated with immigration custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator and the appropriate Enforcement and Removal Operations contact. Never infer ICE custody from a P2C disappearance alone. Likewise, a county-jail departure for a U.S. Marshals arrangement requires confirmation through the federal custodian, not a relabeled Alamance release.
Alamance Release Pickup Logistics
ACSO does not publish an hour of release, a physical exit door, or a weekend and holiday pickup schedule. Detention operations continue around the clock, while the sheriff front office lists Monday through Friday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except holidays.
Call the Detention Center with the booking number and ask whether release is complete, where pickup is permitted, and when the person may be met. Do not gather at an assumed door or treat a projected date as an appointment. The facility controls the actual processing sequence and can account for another hold or last-minute record change.
Getting Home After Alamance Release
Link Transit serves Alamance County offices in Graham and connects with PART Route 4 at listed county locations. Its published material does not establish a stop at the Detention Center door, and the research did not identify transportation supplied by ACSO.
A released person or family can consult the Link Transit route planner, then independently confirm the nearest current stop, operating hours, connection point, and pickup location. Release processing and transit service operate on separate schedules, so verify both before setting a travel plan.

No single database covers every kind of departure. Use the custody level and record purpose to choose the correct starting point.

Alamance Detention Campus Transfers
The Alamance detention system spans three physical capacity blocks: 156 beds in the original facility, 240 beds in the addition that opened in 2007, and 80 beds at the Annex, for a combined rated capacity of 476. Multiple buildings do not create multiple public inquiry systems.
P2C is the shared ACSO inquiry path. A move between the original area, newer main building, and Annex is an internal housing change, not release from sheriff custody. Ask for the specific booking and release event rather than inferring release from a building assignment.
Alamance County Detention Facilities
Alamance County Detention Center at 109 S. Maple Street is the main ACSO complex. A person can return to the community or transfer to another county, DAC, or a federal authority, and the ACSO record should identify the departure that it owns.
Alamance County Detention Center Annex at 315 Prison Camp Road is an 80-bed ACSO component. It has no separate public roster or release feed. Use the same P2C and written-record process, and confirm that a reported move was not simply a transfer back to the main complex.
For either building, one custodian record plus a second source is the sound minimum when destination or legal basis matters: ACSO plus the Clerk for a court-ordered community release, or ACSO plus DAC, BOP, or ICE for a transfer.
